Happy Thanksgiving! This holiday, I want to focus on something that’s really important to me: gratitude. We hear it all the time, “wake up every morning telling yourself how grateful you are for what you have.” And honestly, I know it sounds cliché, but it’s so so true.
Life is such a weird, fantastic, delicate thing and even though it’s hard, I try to always be mindful of that. I don’t know about you, but I can get so wrapped up in the routine of my daily life, that it starts to feel like every little thing that happens to me is hundred times more tragic or critical than it actually is. I used to struggle with the question “How do I see beyond this tunnel vision?” And then one day I realized that as long as I have love, food/shelter/basic needs covered, family and friends who care about me, a way to express myself, and something to strive for, I’m living the best life I can possibly live, even if things aren’t perfect. And remember, comparison is the enemy of happiness.
We all experience the path to gratitude differently. To some, it comes easily. Others really have to make an effort to not let the little things get to them. Whichever path you’re on, please remember that you have the power to choose how your journey unfolds. Gratitude is a state of mind that we can all achieve. And I really want that for you.
So, in the spirit of the holiday, here is a small list of things I’m grateful for:
- I’m grateful for my husband and the ways we love and empower each other.
- I’m grateful for our cute, old, little apartment that we’ve made feel so much more than that. I’m grateful that it feels like home.
- I’m grateful for the beautiful big city that we live in and the opportunities here for both of us.
- I’m grateful that we can drive down to the beach and watch the sunset whenever we want.
- I’m grateful to have the education and skills that allow me to have a stable job.
- I’m grateful for discovering my ambition and drive and for the ability to do things even if they scare me.
- I’m grateful for some amazing friendships I’ve formed since moving to a new city. I’m even more grateful now for the times I had no friends here at all because now I appreciate the ones I do have even more.
- I’m grateful for my family and that I get to see them this Christmas
- I’m grateful for the journey I’m on and for the fact that the future can be anything I want it to be.
What are some of the things you’re grateful for this year?
