In honor of my three year anniversary with LA, I wanted to share a few things I find so special about this place. I moved here in 2016 literally right after graduating college with a dream in my pocket and not much else. It feels like a lifetime but it’s only been three years of living in this eclectic, awe-inspiring, at times frustrating, beautiful mess of a city that my husband and I now call home. So, to celebrate this little milestone, I’m going to share three things I love about LA.
Narrowing it down to three will be tough so let’s see how this goes!
3 Things I Love About LA:
1. When you walk outside, everything is beautiful
The weather…duh! I think whenever I talk to somebody who just moved to LA, the first thing they bring up is the weather. I mean, where else can you constantly feel sunshine and have frequent beach days in the dead of winter? If you’re not feeling the beach just turn around and head towards the mountains. Sometimes when my husband and I are driving down Wilshire Blvd (one of my favorite streets), I glance out the window and see all of the glamorous buildings rushing past us with the mountains in the distance and I feel like I’m somewhere exotic but still at home all at the same time. I think the fact that I grew up with the flattest most suburban surroundings makes the incredible landscape of LA that much more special to me.
2. The flowers growing from the concrete on the tops and sides of highway underpasses
This sounds random I know but trust me. The way the colors sprout from the the most industrial areas… it’s magic. It’s like a little sign of hope that beauty comes from even the most hopeless places. This subtle reminder has gotten me through many an exhausting drive home from work.
3. The opportunity to be and do anything you want
I came to this city with a pretty clear vision of my path. I’ll work hard at my job and keep climbing until I get to the top (whatever that meant). After realizing what I really wanted out of a professional life, it was then that I saw nothing but endless possibilities. People come here from all over the world to pursue their dreams, and I may be a little biased, but I think it’s one of the best places for me to try that, too.
