There’s no denying 2020 has been a wild year. For me, it’s been a year of personal reflection, practicing mindfulness, and of course, fashion. Fashion is among one of the few positive outcomes that 2020 was gracious enough to offer. So many fun trends popped up and I think it’s time to celebrate them!
So here is a round up of my personal favorite fashion trends of 2020.
Brown
Brown fully dominated the runways, the streets, and the Instagram this year. Thanks to brands like Acne Studios and Fendi for featuring it during fashion week, the chocolate hue trickled down and landed into all of our closets. According to global trend forecaster WGSN, brown is the fastest-growing color in womenswear, with a 24 per cent year-over-year increase in the United States. Plus, it’s pretty!
Faux Leather
Another stunning way to elevate your look. From blazers and jackets, to pants, to knee-high boots, faux leather was a must-have. With so many versatile ways to style faux-leather, it’s no wonder this trend has been around the block since the 90’s/early 00’s.
Knitwear
What’s better than a chic knitted two-piece that looks elegant but makes you feel like you’re wearing pajamas? Here’s a trend that prioritized comfort, but never made us sacrifice style. You already know I prefer my knits neutral. My favorite knit piece in my closet this year was this gorgeous calf-length dress from Zara.
Trench Coats
Need a sleek way to tie a look together? We saw the trench coat complete many a look this fall. From mid-length to duster-length, I love a coat that goes with everything. Here I’ve paired my trench coat with some high-waisted, flared denim and ankle-length boots for a sleek and sophisticated look.
Loungewear
One of the few good things to come out of 2020 was the complete and total acceptance of loungewear as an everyday thing. You’re wearing sweatpants all day? No judgement whatsoever, and bonus points if it’s a sweat set with a cute matching top.
Masks
While masks may not have started out as a fashion trend, by mid-2020 we were all looking for a more stylish way to help stop the spread of Corona virus. Once the retail industry caught on to the fact that we were no longer feeling the blue disposable mask, companies started selling more sustainable and fashion-forward masks that allowed us to express our personal style. Me, I’m all good with a plain black one.
