Now more than ever, it’s important that we are taking care of ourselves. To me, that means making sure my beauty routine is doing the most for my skin and my self esteem!
During these quarantimes, you’re probably feeling so many different emotions. I know I sure am. My mood can range from optimistic to gloomy to hyper to lethargic often within the span of a single day. I realized early on that if I don’t implement structure into my routine, it’s not a pleasant experience.
One thing I’ve found that really works for me is sticking to a daily beauty routine. Starting my day with skincare and light make-up makes me feel like life is still somewhat normal, since that’s what I always used to do before. So I thought I would share my favorite products that I use on the daily.
1. Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
By now, you should know how important SPF is to me. I cannot stress this enough – PUT SUNSCREEN ON YOUR FACE EVERY DAY. Especially if you plan to go outside. After my moisturizer, I like to use this Neutrogena sunscreen because a) it’s lightweight and b) it smells pretty good.
2. Lancôme Ultra Wear Foundation (in shade 210)
Putting on a light layer of foundation makes me feel like I have my shit together. I’m not the biggest fan of my freckles so I like a full coverage situation. When I want to pretend I’m going somewhere, I apply this foundation with my beauty blender for an instant upgrade.
3. Elleeplex Keratin Clear Mascara
I learned about this product from my lash lift esthetician. It’s a godsend right after a lash lift because the keratin keeps your lashes silky and strong – think of it as a lash conditioner. You can also use it well after a lash lift. I like to use it before I apply mascara, but sometimes I don’t want to apply mascara at all, so I’ll use this solo.
4. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (vanilla)
It’s called a “lip sleeping mask” but I would be lying if I said I don’t use it night AND day. I’ve used this product for about a year and it has made my lips so much softer. I wrap up my make-up routine by dabbing some of this on my lips for a glossy and shiny finish.
I also want to use this post to touch on mental health. We are living through an unprecedented tragedy that has and continues to claim lives, livelihoods and stability for millions all over the world. Things are scary! And if you need to handle that by laying on the couch all day – that’s completely fine.
Some people want to be productive – bake their bread, workout, paint, write a novel – and that’s okay, too. If you’re lucky enough to have the luxury of time, use it to do what makes you happy.
I’ve found what works for me and that’s writing for my blog, creating Instagram content, putting on make-up, journaling, yoga, trying new recipes and binging funny tv shows. Ultimately, just trying to take it one day at a time.
How are you feeling about all of this? What activities (or non-activities!) have you been up to?
